German language

Many people in Germany speak English, however it is always good to have a basic knowledge of the primary language spoken in the country you live in. We therefore advise students to learn German, as it is necessary for cultural integration in your everyday life in Lübeck and makes it much easier to find an internship and job after your studies.

During all semesters you may attend "free" German courses at all levels at the Technische Hochschule or Universität zu Lübeck. In addition, there is always the possibility to attend German courses outside university (e.g. at the "Volkshochschule") at one's own expense.

We will give you more information about the courses during the Welcoome Week or you can check with the language center.

For those who are already able to speak some German but want to practice everyday conversation, the city of Lübeck offers a Program called "Sprachpartnerschaften" (Language Buddies). In this program you meet every two weeks with Germans and speak with them in German about anything you like.
